Finite Element Analysis of Temperature Distribution during Arc Welding Using Adaptive Grid Technique
نویسنده
چکیده
Analysis of temperature and the cool ing rates during the weld ing process is essential to determine the deformation and residual stresses, and hence, the load-carrying capacity of the weldments. Numerical methods wi th nonl inear tenqperature-dependent mechanical properties with latent heat effects have been developed in recent years. The accuracy and computational efficiency of these methods depend on the input mesh used in the analysis. In this paper, a transient adaptive mesh, which gives a fine mesh around the arc source where temperature gradients are too high and a coarse mesh in other places, is developed. The computed values of temperature for a sample problem are compared with time experimental resuits available in the literature. The mesh and temperature plots at different times are presented.

Predicting and controlling residual stresses are critical issues in welding engineering. With advancements in computer technology, a numerical simulation technique can predict welding residual stress. To accurately simulate temperature and stress fields, the thermal cycle obtained from the finite element model must be in coincidence with an actual heat source. This study performed a Gaussian di...
متن کاملInvestigating the Effect of Joint Geometry of the Gas Tungsten Arc Welding Process on the Residual Stress and Distortion using the Finite Element Method
Although a few models have been proposed for 3D simulation of different welding processes, 2D models are still more effective in design goals, thus more popular due to the short-time analysis. In this research, replacing "time" by the "third dimension of place", the gas tungsten arc welding process was simulated by the finite element method in two dimensions and in a short time with acceptable ...
